Northeast Ski Season Preview
Hey Metuchen Ski Club members!
The leaves are falling, the air is getting crisp, and you know what that means—ski season is just around the corner! Whether you're a seasoned black diamond destroyer or just getting your snow legs back, we've got the scoop on what to expect this winter in the Northeast.
What's the Snow Forecast Looking Like?
Mother Nature has some interesting plans for us this winter. While forecasters are predicting above-normal temperatures for the Northeast, don't pack away your skis just yet! Several meteorologists are calling for potentially heavy snowfall across our region, particularly at northern resorts like Jay Peak, Stowe, and Sugarloaf.
The winter pattern is expected to be influenced by La Niña conditions, which typically brings colder air and ample precipitation to the Northeast. Translation? We could see some excellent powder days mixed in with those warmer stretches. The key will be timing—when those cold snaps hit, the mountains will be primed for fresh snow.
When Can We Expect to See Snow?
Most Northeast resorts are gearing up for their typical opening windows. Many mountains traditionally fire up their snowmaking systems in mid-to-late November, with full operations ramping up by mid-December. Of course, early season snow lovers know that resorts like Killington and Sunday River often compete to be first on the slopes, sometimes opening as early as October if conditions cooperate.
Keep your eyes on the forecasts as we move through November—early December could bring some legitimate natural snow to complement the snowmaking efforts.
